John  Postema, age 82, of Walker, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, July 20, 2015 and is now home with his Lord and Savior.  He was preceded in death by his infant son, Clarence John, and sister, Fran Visser (Al Slendebroek, Bill Visser-deceased).  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  John treasured his family, especially camping, and making great memories together.  He always supported all of his family and all of their children’s activities.  John also enjoyed various outdoor activities including, gardening, golfing and fishing.  He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Betty; children: Linda and Jim Emelander and their children, Kristen and Nathan Thompson (Christopher, Claire), Janna Emelander; Renee and Randy Siegersma and their children, Kelly, Drew Siegersma; Gary and Terri Postema and their children, Caroline, Lauren, Grace Postema; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Paul Gootjes, Winnie Prins (Gerrit-deceased), John and Amy Vos, John and Theressa Gootjes, Ann Gootjes (Kees-deceased), Dick and Carol Gootjes, Peter and Ann Gootjes, Annette Gootjes; many nieces, nephews and cousins.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 1 pm at Walker United Reformed Church, 1941 Randall Ave. NW, Grand Rapids, MI with Rev. Corey Dykstra officiating.  Interment Rosedale Memorial Park.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday, July 24, 2015 from 1-3 and 6-8 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Unity Christian High School or Faith Hospice.
