Lester DeHaan, age 79, of Whitehall, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 27, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Sophia DeHaan, brother, Melvin DeHaan, and parents-in-law, John and Anna Holwerda. Lester faithfully served his Lord and Savior as an elder and deacon at Millbrook CRC and was actively involved in fundraising for many Christian ministries. He was the CEO and president of DeHaan Builders and served two terms as president of the Grand Rapids Home Builders Association. He also served his country in the United States Navy in the SeaBees Construction Division. Lester will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Joanne; children, Lyn and David Rypma, Douglas and Sherry DeHaan, Kristine and Robert Palosaari; grandchildren, Katie and Nick Bultema, Kelly and Andy Hoezee, Linsey and Ryan Sinnema, Ashley and Josh Burgess, Courtney and Ross MacGregor, Whitney DeHaan, Marcey DeHaan, Kelsey and Jeff Hardin, Megan Koetsier, Holly Koetsier; great grandchildren, Braylyn, Brayden, and Brayella Bultema, Cora and Evie Hoezee, Adley and Madison Sinnema, Alex and Drake Hardin, Ariana Koetsier; sister, Wilma and Gord Berens; nieces and nephews, Joel and Beverly Berens, Sheri and Mark Postema, Susan Grundstrom. Funeral services will be held on Friday 11 am at Millbrook Christian Reformed Church, 3661 Poinsettia SE, Grand Rapids, with Rev. Robert VanManen and Pastor Will Hensen officiating. Interment Rest Lawn Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the church, as well as Friday from 10-11 am prior to the service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Harbor Hospice.

So sorry for your loss Doug. I remember you and Lester back in 1990's at Crystal Springs. You and Lester where excited about the opportunity in the custom home market and you quickly made a name for yourselves, setting a new standard of excellence in the home building industry.
